Ideal Concepts, Inc. approves the Biden administration’s proposal to reopen the federal Affordable Care Act (ACA or Obamacare) marketplaces so that Americans affected by COVID-19 can get the health coverage they deserve.
“Getting more people enrolled in comprehensive health insurance plans is imperative during this critical time,” says Ideal Concepts President John Pequeno. “One medical emergency can be financially devastating without the right insurance plan, and the coronavirus is putting more people at risk. The Biden administration’s decision to reopen the federal ACA marketplaces ensures that more people will get covered, which helps keep more Americans both physically and financially healthy.”
President Biden is expected to sign an executive order on Thursday instructing federal agencies to “take steps to strengthen Medicaid and initiate an open enrollment period under the ACA.”
While there has yet to be final word on what those steps will entail, speculation is that some sort of Special Enrollment Period for individuals impacted by COVID-19 could allow millions of Americans to enroll in ACA plans for 2021.
Currently, the federal exchange remains closed unless individuals prove that they have a Qualifying Life Event like moving to a new residence, having a baby, or getting married.
